Bridal Show

Today was the first time in my life I went to a Bridal Show. Until now I’ve had no reason to go to one and therefore had no idea what to expect. Gentlemen listen up – it’s a mad house. I’m not saying it’s a wild, uncontrolled event or anything like that but it’s crazy inside. There’s a ton to see and not always a lot of time to sit and talk with someone at a booth you find interesting.

Brooke and I got there around 10AM and met up with Amy. We didn’t wait around too long before heading towards the door. Before we made it there we saw two party buses and took a peek inside. We didn’t even get a foot on the step and some guy came right over – I’m sure “time to make a sale” was running through his mind. And I don’t blame him, after all it’s what he’s there to do. However, and I hate saying this, but I couldn’t understand much of what he was saying. I couldn’t place the accent but it was thick. At one point he asked Brooke how many people we would have in the wedding party and she gave him our wedding date. That’s how hard it was to understand him.

We headed off that and into the show. Right off the bat there’s this long line and I’m thinking to myself, “We’re going to be here for hours!” The line was pretty fast moving so it wasn’t bad – and even before we made it to the area where all the booths were Cyndi (Brooke’s mother) showed up. So we headed inside. Shortly after we were inside Bettina (Brooke’s sister) called and caught up with us.

I won’t even pretend to remember what we all saw or who we talked with. A lot of things there were didn’t even need to worry about. Music setups, for example, were all over the place but we are set with that. Yet the clever people at the Bridal show must have figured on something like that so they handed out these cards with all the vendors names on them. The idea was to get the card signed by each vendor, then you could drop the card off for some drawing (I forget the prize). But you’d have to be present during the drawing in order to claim the prize – the drawing wasn’t going to be held until around 2PM.

Brooke gave up on the card thing about 3/4 of the way through the place. We knew we wouldn’t be there until 2 so why bother? We continued to check things out, grabbed samples of stuff, swiped some candy (and a few pens) and in about an hour and a half we were out the door.

I was bummed – not to leave but because there were no wedding cake samples to be had anywhere!

Overall we walked away with a bag full of handouts (which I lugged around the place) and a lot of information (which Brooke “lugged around the place”). It wasn’t as bad as I had thought after we first walked in. And really I had fun.

However, next time I hope there’s some cake.
