Gift Registry - Boston Store
Posted by: Dan on Dec 02, 2007
Brooke and I decided to register at Boston Store for some luggage and a few other things. What an ordeal.
First let me just say that as of right now I think we only have luggage and maybe one or two other things on the list. We were hoping to find a bed set – as in a comforter, sheets, etc. – but that didn’t pan out on this trip. We decided to wait a bit and go back later figuring that their inventory will change.
Okay so we hit Boston Store at Brookfield Square and head up stairs to set up the registry. The lady that helped us, while she did try her best, was not very good at getting a registry set up. First she wasn’t the “bridal consultant” so she said she’d check to see if the actual bridal consultant could help. Apparently she was doing some bridal thing in the store — right across from the counter we were at. So this lady steps out from behind the counter and tried to get the consultants attention – kind of half-assed I might say. She barely said the consultants name. Ugh! So she decided to just help us.
We get to the desk to set up the registry, the lady said, there was a form that we were suppose to fill out. She couldn’t find it so rather than have us wait for her to find it she skipped that. Fair enough – and much appreciated. I’d rather not sit there for 20 minutes as she looked. So far so good. (I guess)
She starts to get our information, all the while I keep getting this feeling like she doesn’t really know what the hell she’s doing. But hey, how hard can it be. After she takes all our info she grabs the scanning device and asks, “Have you registered anywhere else? Have you used a scanner before?” Since we’ve registered at two other places we say yes, but the lady proceeds to tell us how to use the thing. Okay you may be thinking, “Yeah but each place is different.” You’re right, but she spoke to us like we were 5 years old. Frustrating.
Finally we’re let loose on the store with the scanner in hand. We hit the luggage area, browse for a bit and then pick some luggage. Brooke goes to scan it and the scanner says something about inputting the registry number. Basically the scanner wasn’t set up. Back to the desk to get the lady to fix that.
The fix didn’t take too long but she had found this packet we’re suppose to get. She continues to talk on and on – hey lady we just wanna scan some luggage!
Back to the luggage – we scan it and we’re finally set. We hit a few other sections of the store, ie. the bedding area. We really didn’t see much there so wandered around a bit. I think we scanned two things in the housewares section – and in the process somehow upped the quantity of one piece of luggage to 8. Then it was back to the desk.
There was another couple there registering so we had to wait. After we waited, we waited some more. After that… more waiting. Seemed like a good 20 minutes of waiting before we got to sit down – a different lady was at the desk. She had the form we were suppose to fill out so we did that while she fixed the quantity issue with that one piece of luggage.
Side note here: While sitting there I noticed the form from the previous couple who was there registering. The woman’s name was Brooke. Odd hey? Okay not that odd but what was odd was the fact that their wedding date was the same as ours. Freaky!
We wrapped up the whole registry thing with the nice, helpful lady behind the counter. We grabbed our stuff and headed out.
Moral of the story – if there is one – if you’re registering for gifts at a place that has someone who is the bridal consultant, make sure she or he is the one setting things up for you. I think it would go a lot more smoothly.
