Invitations - The Paper
Posted by: Dan on Mar 05, 2008
Since I’m making our wedding invitations the first step was to create the template using Scribus. That didn’t take too long and the test runs went pretty well.
The next step in the process was trying to locate some “pink” card stock that would match the pink (blush, pedal, whatever it’s called) color of the bridesmaid’s dresses. That proved to be a bit challenging though. I could find bright pink no problem but that’s not what I needed. When I would find something that looked like it would work it was over one dollar a sheet. Sorry but I’m not spending over $250 for a ream of 250 sheets of paper.
Then it dawned on me that I knew some people in the printing world who might be able to help. Thankfully I still had an old friend’s email address in my address book. So I shot Angie an email and asked if she could help out – she could, and she did.
I stopped by her work last Thursday (Feb. 28th I believe it was) and looked over some paper samples – in these little sample books. When I couldn’t make a decision on what would work best she said I could take the samples home to let Brooke look at. That worked out best because the original sheet I liked, well it didn’t match up to well under “normal” lighting.
Brooke and I settled on the paper and I shot Ang an email – this was on Monday (March 3rd.). The paper was in today and I got to pick it up. Excellent. The best part? 250 sheets only ran me $15!
It’s a bit thicker than I thought which just means I may have to change a few printer settings and score the paper before folding it. Still it shouldn’t be too bad.
Next step … figuring out the wording for the inside of the invitation.
PS – Angie, I’ve said it before but thanks a ton for all your help! I appreciate it!
