Tuxedo Price Misquote

Posted by: Dan on Mar 21, 2008

Well I guess I should have see it coming, things seemed to be going along too smoothly.

I ran to Men’s Wearhouse yesterday because it appeared on my little printout that they had not included a tux for the usher (Craig). Turns out I was right, they never put the info in for the usher. I got that fixed up just fine.

Well today Craig went to get measured. How do I know this? Because there was a voice mail message from him telling me they quoted him a price around $90. $90!!! – I was told it was going to be less than $70. That’s not like forgetting to add in the cuff links to the price that’s a big oversight.

I called Men’s Wearhouse to find out what the hell is going on. It basically boils down to this…

Brooke and I pre-registered at a bridal show which gave us $25 off each tux rental. And it also locked us into the rental prices for the tuxes at that time. So the $109.99 package with the $25 off was really $84.99 (not including $5 for damage coverage and tax as well). When we went into the store to pick out the tux and all the goodies the lady helping us mentioned that there was some $20 off we’d get when the guys paid for the tuxes.

Well what I came to find out tonight is that normally they give the $20 off. But since that’s one discount they can’t use it with the $25 off discount we already got. But the chick helping us didn’t know that or messed up somewhere along the line and told us we’d get that as well. Which is why the low price was believable.

I guess it’s true when they say something is “too good to be true.”

I actually emailed the Men’s Wearhouse and let them know that I’m disappointed in them. A lot of places I know would have honored a misquoted price – but not them. I understand the policy but if you quote a price then you should get it. It’s like they reneged on a bet or something.

So to all my tux renters out there…. sorry about the additional cost on the tuxes. I’ll have to buy you all a few beers at the reception. :p
