Avoid Woody's Steak House
Posted by: Dan on Jun 09, 2008
With all the moving going on these past few weeks I haven’t had a chance to update this blog – sorry about that. Two weeks of moving and another waiting for an internet connection will do that though.
I’m actually at work right now typing this because I’m pissed and I’m hoping that this post calms me down a bit.
This past Saturday night Brooke received a piece of mail from the IRS. Panic sets in as panic will when you get a letter from them. As it turns out it the letter was a Notice of Levy in regard to Woody’s Steak House. It appears that they own the IRS some tax money and the notice was to inform us that payments that should go to Woody’s Steak House instead should be paid to the IRS.
Basically what this comes down to is we’re now back to square one on the whole caterer thing. There’s no way we can trust that Woody’s would even be able to cater our wedding reception. I mean if they owe cash to the IRS (and that’s who we’re suppose to pay on Woody’s behalf) how can they afford the food we should be getting?
Yup, this isn’t good. Three weeks until the wedding and we have no food. Of course if it comes down to it people in my family have already said they’d be more than willing to start cooking. Even my cousin Mike mentioned roasting a pig. Yeah I could get behind that.
So people in the Wisconsin area… if you’re reading this, don’t go with Woody’s to cater your wedding.
PS – I will do my best to catch up on everything I’ve missed adding these past few weeks. Of course right now with looking for a new caterer my time will be very limited.
Caterer - We Good Now?
Posted by: Dan on Feb 11, 2008
Brooke and I finally got some things straightened out with Woody’s Steak House (our caterer’s). We headed out there tonight to meet with Woody himself – he’s running the catering now.
We had a few things to discuss and get straight and overall I think it went well. Don’t get me wrong, while Woody was a nice guy, I’m still not 100% happy with this place. I mean if you’re not going to call your customers when the guy running your catering service leaves then what else could you let slip through the cracks?
I think we’ll need to stay on top of this place and make sure that things go smoothly. Of course I guess that’s true for any place.
We decided to go with the buffet for dinner, as opposed to our original sit-down style idea. It’ll save a lot of money… strike that…it allows us to spend that money elsewhere.
The linens seems to be in order. We can actually get a few of the linens from a different place (forget the name) instead of from BBJ Linen. This will save us some money as well.
So yup it appears that, for a while, anyway we’re set with the catering. Brooke and I can breathe a bit easier.
Caterer Contact
Posted by: Dan on Feb 05, 2008
Well it’s finally happened, I’ve gotten in touch with our caterer. After two unanswered emails and no clue how in the hell to contact I’ve gotten through to Woody (of Woody’s Steak House).
Brooke called me tonight to ask me to try and call the caterer – so I did. I hadn’t called prior to this simply because I thought it best to let Brooke handle it. The reason being that she seems to have more questions than I do and I don’t really do a good job finding things out. I can tell this is the case because the few times I’ve called or emailed a place Brooke will ask me about something that I didn’t even consider asking. I’m a knob like that I guess.
Anyway I talked with Woody who is going to call me tomorrow to pick a date for Brooke and I to go back out to meet with him. We feel like we’re starting from scratch here – and basically we are. We had put down a down payment of $750 back in September and still have no contract.
So we’ll see when we can meet and how that goes.
Update: Woody called (Feb. 5) to set up a time to meet on the 11th.
Caterer - WTF?
Posted by: Dan on Jan 13, 2008
Yesterday on our way to our linen appointment Brooke received a phone call from Sean – he was our contact at Woody’s Steak House which is the place catering our wedding.
Turns out that he no longer works there and someone from Woody’s was suppose to contact us but never did. On the one hand it was very cool of him to call us to let us know about it and to tell us the linen appointment was still on. On the other hand it would have been nice to know about this a while back. We don’t know what happened or when he left, but still it sucks to be left hanging. Especially since we still don’t have our contract from Woody’s.
I’m starting to wonder if we made the right choice with Woody’s now. No phone call about what happened. No one from the place showed up at the linen place. No clue about the contract. Someone’s dropping the ball here and we’re not being kept in the loop.
Caterer - An Update
Posted by: Dan on Dec 12, 2007
Back on December 2nd I posted about how I had to email our caterer about our wedding contract. Well here’s a brief update.
The email I sent on December 2nd wasn’t replied to until the 4th – which I guess isn’t that bad at all. In the email Sean (the guy we originally talked with) apologized for not having sent the contract. He asked if I’d rather have it mailed to me or sent as an attachment via email. I picked email – I mean I figured it would be a quick and easy way to do it.
In my original email I also mentioned needing to set up an appointment with the place that will do our linens – which Brooke and I were told to would be handled by Sean. In his reply to my email he said to pick some dates and let him know what would work best for us.
I talked with Brooke about the days for the linen company appointment and mailed Sean back on the 6th.
I finally received a reply from him tonight (December 12) – we have the linen appointment set. Good. The bad thing is that I’m still waiting on the contract.
I did reply tonight with another request for the contract. Let’s hope he sends it this time.
I’m not sure what’s going on but right now I’m not to happy with all this. I mean I can understand that he’s probably busy but sending an email attachment is like a 10 second job. If he can’t remember to do that, what else will he forget?
Hopefully this isn’t a sign of things to come.
