Visit With A Florist
Posted by: Dan on Feb 08, 2008
I meet up with Brooke today after work so we could go and meet with a florist. I have to apologize to you (and to the florist we met with) because I don’t have the name of the florist. Brooke set the meeting up and I, like a fool, didn’t ask for any information.
Anyway the meeting went rather well. The lady had some great ideas for both the flowers and the table center pieces. Calla lilies, spray roses and hydrangeas seemed to be what we picked… all very cool looking in the photos that we saw.
It dawned on me while we were at this meeting that I have yet to see any arrangement that I just didn’t like. There have been many that I knew I wouldn’t work for Brooke and I. Otherwise looking for flowers is all about what you like, what you can afford and then which florist fits best with you as a couple.
For Brooke and I, I think we need a florist who is on top of his/her game, likes what they do and doesn’t mind having fun (joking around, chatting, etc.). I think, as a couple, we’re laid back and we need that in a florist. The more uptight the florist is the more uptight we get – and we don’t want or need that.
So that’s something for other couples to think about. A lot of who you deal with is going to reflect in how you act as a couple during this stressful time of wedding planning. If you’re dealing with someone who’s stressed out, then you’re going to be even more stressed.
Overall I enjoyed this meeting… more so than the last one we had. We’re back to the waiting game though since we won’t get the estimate for a few days. Hopefully it’s around what we want to spend because it would be a load off our shoulders (more so Brooke’s shoulders than mine).
Florist Consultation
Posted by: Dan on Jan 11, 2008
Tonight Brooke and I had a 1 hour (free) consultation with a florist from Some Kinda Wonderful. Looking at the website we thought we were going to an actual store – shows you how much we know. It appear the consultation was at the lady’s house. She has a store in Brookfield but must do a lot of work from her home.
I don’t know why but this really threw me for a loop. I think because the website left the impression in my mind that this was an operation on a grand scale. Not like it mattered to me. I’m fine with whoever we go with as long as the flowers look great.
The lady we met with (I forgot her name already!) was OK. I guess you could say a middle of the road kind of personality. I get along great with people who aren’t afraid to be a bit funny and carefree. I don’t need the serious, business person all the time.
She did a good job providing us with information, which is what we needed since we had only a few ideas of what we were looking for. Brooke mentioned that she didn’t feel all that prepared for the meeting – no list of questions to ask. While we may not have had a list of questions, I think we got a lot of what we were looking for. Call it a starting point for the next coupled of florists we talk with.
Overall I think it was a productive trip and I’m glad we went. At least now we know what we’re in for as we continue to hunt for a florist.
Tip: Have a general idea of what you’re looking for. Even if you can’t narrow it down, that’s why you’re going to meet with these people in the first place. If you have pictures of what you like take that along. If you’re on a budget let them know, it seems they’re very willing to help you stick to what you want to spend.
