And Hell Didn't Even Need To Freeze Over

Well I can’t believe it, Brooke and I actually got our engagement pictures back from Edward Fox Photography. Only about 17 weeks after we purchased them. Considering we should have had them 3 to 4 weeks after that I consider it a miracle that we even got them.
Originally I thought they said we’d have to wait 6 to 8 weeks to get them. But looking over the slip we were given it says 3 to 4 weeks. So 17 weeks later…. yeah.
Anyway two nice things happened because of that. First, we managed to get them before Brooke’s bridal shower. Second, since they had to rush the order for us they actually ordered from two different labs and both sets were there when we went to pick up the print. Which meant we got two sets of the pictures for the price of one. To me that still doesn’t really make up for the long wait. And it doesn’t leave me with a boat-load of confidence in them.
I will say one thing though. Our photographer for the engagement pictures did a really, really nice job. I’m actually sitting here looking at one of the black and white prints we ordered and I love the picture. Which is a huge thing since 99% of the time if there’s a picture with me in it, I’d rather not look at it. Of course it may help that my head is turned.
A word of caution to currently engaged couples. Stay on top of your photographers to make sure you’re not waiting for 17 weeks for prints. Brooke and I managed to get caught up in other aspects of the wedding planning and didn’t do this. So let our story serve as a warning.

Edited on April 26, 2008 to add the engagement picture.
Are You Serious?

So one Monday (April 7, 2008) I left a message at Edward Fox Photography about Brooke and my engagement pictures. We purchased a few prints way back in December (the 22nd) and were suppose to get a phone call in 6 to 8 weeks.
Since we hadn’t heard anything from them I figured a call was in order. They aren’t in the office so I left a message. They called Brooke back today – they probably didn’t call me back because of the tone of my message. Anyway they told Brooke they thought we had picked the pictures up already. The guy said he would look around to see if they were misplaced at the studio. If he couldn’t find them he was going to have to order new prints. Either way he said he would call her back.
Of course he never called her back. So I had to call and find out what the hell was going on. Turns out they had to re-order the pictures and we should have them next week.
Let me rephrase that. They had to re-order the pictures and we better have them next week.
The Engagement Picture

I originally didn’t want to post this picture because of copyright control. I know that Brooke and I arranged with the photographer that our wedding pictures will not contain a copyright – we can print them as we want. I’m not sure if that comes into play with the engagement pictures.
However, this image works perfectly to show the powers of Photoshop. And because I’m using this image as a method to show comparison it falls under fair use – no copyright violation.
So have a look at the two pics and see what you think. Was it worth me doing a bit of Photoshopping?

Edited Picture:

(I don’t know why it looks like I’m wearing lipstick… I didn’t edit that into the picture).
Basically what I did in this edit was…
- I had a few blemishes on my face. To fix those I used the stamp tool to cover them.
- Used the blur tool with a softer setting and smoothed out our skin. You don’t want to go overboard and end up with plastic looking skin (or blur lines)
- Used the lasso tool around our teeth and whitened them with the dodge tool. The lighting made may teeth look bad… ugh.
- Used the burn tool on the shinny spots on the skin. Too much light was reflected off my massive forehead!
- Blurred the area I used the burn tool on in the step above.
- Used the “unsharp mask” filter on the whole image (to crisp-up the finner details)
And there you have it… simple as 1, 2, 3.
Waiting For The Engagement Pictures
Posted by: Dan on Feb 05, 2008
Back n December Brooke and I had our first look at our engagement pictures from Edward Fox Photography. During that session we picked out a few images that we wanted and the one we’ll use as our announcement in the paper.
The picture that we plan on using in the paper was suppose to be emailed to us but we haven’t received it yet. I called tonight right after I got off the phone with our caterer. The lady I spoke with (Lisa I believe was her name) said she would ask around tomorrow and have the image emailed to us. Hopefully we’ll get that soon – not like there’s a rush but I’m excited to see it.
We’re also waiting for the engagement pictures we ordered to come back. It should be fun to get those… it’s just waiting for them that’s the hard part.
First Look - Engagement Pictures

Today Brooke and I headed to Edward Fox Photography to have a peek at our engagement pictures. I was nervous about this because I don’t think I photograph well. Brooke, well she can’t take a bad picture so there was no worry there.
I don’t know what magic our photographer possessed but the pictures turned out awesome. Brooke is stunning in the images and me… well I won’t make small babies cry on sight! Woo hoo!
I believe there were 93 images taken that we had to pick through. We picked out 6 or 7 from that lot that we really liked and then ordered a few different poses.
Funny moment from the day… Brooke slipping off her chair. Okay she didn’t slip off but her arm slipped off the arm rest — but you would have thought she took a dive off the chair!
